Circuit‐switchcommunicationrequirestheRaventobein
PassThrumode,communicatingdirectlywiththeinternal
hardware.
Note: When the Raven is used
for circuit switch, the circuit
switch configuration will disable
all ALEOS features except for
serial port communication.
PassThrumodedisablestheuseofALEOSinthemodem.Any
featuresavailableusingALEOSarenotusablewhenthe
modemisinPassThrumode.InPassThrumode,thesettings
availablearethoseoftheinternalhardware.TheRavenC3211
inPassThrumodecansavesettingsinternallylikeaconven
‐
tionalanalogmodem.TheRavenC3210orC3216inPassThru
modecannot.
Thebestmachinesforuseincircuit‐switchedmodeareones
thatcanprovidetheirownINITorsetupstringsand/orissue
ATcommands.Forcustomerswhohaveunintelligent
machineswhostillneedtohavethemodemʹreadyʹtobehave
inacertainway(suchasAuto‐Answeringcircuit‐switched
data
calls),thereisafeatureinthemodemcalledtheINIT
STATE.
ForCDMA/1x,circuit‐switchedconfigurationrequiresavoice
plan(account)withyourcarrier,nota1xRTTdataplan.1xRTT
featuresarenotcompatiblewiththecircuitswitchconfigu
‐
ration.Voiceplanspeedsaregenerallylowerthanthoseofa
dataplan.Itisgenerallynoteasytoswitchfromoneplanto
theother.
Configuring Circuit-Switch
TheRavenneedstobeconfiguredtoenterintoPassThruafter
startup.YoucanuseAceManager(preferred)ordirectserial
communicationtoconfiguretheRaventoworkinPassThru
modeandforcircuit‐switchedcommunications.IntheUDP
group,selecttheMDcommandandchoose07‐PassThru.
